Pendant dimensions and suspension height should be coordinated with the ceiling height, room proportions, furniture layout and sightlines. Spacing depends on fixture output, optical distribution, mounting height and target light levels.

Large pendants may be appropriate for open lobbies and atriums, while smaller fixtures or closer spacing may be better suited to counters, tables and task areas. Review fixture photometrics or request a lighting layout to confirm spacing and illumination levels.

Depending on the fixture, commercial pendants may provide direct downlight, indirect uplight or a combination of both. Select products may offer adjustable direct-to-indirect ratios, field-selectable light direction, asymmetric distributions, beam-angle options, diffused lenses or glare-control accessories.

The appropriate distribution depends on whether the fixture is intended to provide task illumination, general ambient light, ceiling brightness or architectural accent lighting.

Dimming options vary by fixture and may include 0-10V, TRIAC, ELV or MLV. Select commercial pendants can also support occupancy sensing, daylight sensing and daylight harvesting.

The driver, fixture wiring and control protocol should be coordinated with the project’s electrical and lighting-control requirements before ordering.

Select pendant fixtures are available with tunable white technology that allows the color temperature and light level to change throughout the day. These systems can support circadian-informed lighting strategies in workplaces, education, healthcare and other occupant-focused environments.

Select commercial pendants are available with RGB+W technology for programmable color, saturated effects and a static white color temperature for general use. Control options may include DMX, wireless systems or other product-specific protocols.

For consistent color across a project, specify compatible fixtures, drivers and controls from the same product family when possible. Large installations may also require coordinated addressing, zoning, mockups and commissioning. Confirm LED specifications, control compatibility and expected color consistency before finalizing the fixture schedule.

Yes. Depending on the product family, commercial pendants may be specified as individual fixtures, continuous linear runs, rings, squares, rectangles or other geometric arrangements.

Modular systems, such as our Continuum™ linear suspension collection, may also support corners, intersections and custom run lengths. Review the available connectors, suspension points, power feeds and ceiling conditions when planning larger configurations.

Many pendant lights can be installed on sloped or vaulted ceilings when paired with a compatible canopy, swivel adapter, aircraft-cable suspension system or sloped-ceiling mounting kit.

Compatibility depends on the fixture, ceiling angle, suspension method and electrical feed. The mounting configuration should be confirmed before ordering, particularly for stem-mounted or multi-point fixtures.

Emergency battery backup is available with select commercial pendant fixtures. Depending on the product, the battery and emergency driver may be integrated into the fixture or installed remotely.

Emergency output, runtime, mounting location and control requirements vary by fixture and project. Confirm compatibility with the selected pendant, driver and applicable emergency-lighting requirements.

Available product documentation may include spec sheets, IES files, photometric reports, BIM or Revit files, installation instructions and control information.

Depending on the fixture, options may include cULus listings, damp- or wet-location ratings, emergency configurations, Made in USA construction and BAA or BABA compliance.

Some products may also support projects with Title 24, JA8 or other energy-code requirements when paired with appropriate controls and system components. Review the individual product documentation and confirm project-specific requirements before specification.

Commercial pendant lighting can support LEED and WELL project goals through energy-efficient LED performance, appropriate light levels, glare management, high color quality and responsive controls.

Features such as occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting and tunable white technology may also help address energy use and occupant comfort. Individual fixtures do not earn project certification on their own, so their contribution should be evaluated as part of the complete lighting and building design.
