The Man, the Myth, the Legend<\/span><\/h4>\n

Twelve years ago, Christian Vincent Munoz, fresh out of architecture school, moved to Los Angeles and met Jay Hayden, an actor from Vermont. They grabbed a couple beers, started playing soccer together\u2014and the rest is exposition.\u00a0Today, they run their own design-build firm, David Vincent LLC.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, who is David Vincent?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs complicated as this sounds, it\u2019s my middle name and his middle name,\u201d laughs Christian, Managing Partner and Co-Owner. Although \u201cDavid Vincent\u201d the person may not actually exist, the firm itself is swiftly making its mark with a steady string of successful projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christian, a career designer\/builder, honed his skills at Los Angeles design-build firm Marmol Radziner, doing everything from blueprints\u00a0to metal work. When Jay bought a house 10 years ago, the two friends started working on home improvement projects together\u2014 renovating the bathrooms, building a playground for the kids, constructing a man cave in the backyard, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three years ago Christian and Jay jumped at the chance to go into business together as David Vincent. For their first project they flipped a house: \u201cWe bought a really old house from the late 1920s and gutted the whole thing.\u201d Soon, they took on other projects, including luxury real estate firm Mercer Vine\u2019s<\/a> brand new 3rd<\/sup> street office in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Master Builders\u2014No Really, They Do Everything<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

For those unfamiliar with the term \u201cdesign-build,” Christian explains it thus: Normally, the architect\/designer draws up the plans for a space, then hands them off to a general contractor to supervise and implement the build. Design-build firms, by contrast, handle the entire process from design through\u00a0construction. They take a project from concept to completion, from blueprint to execution. Everything is in-house\u2014even the furniture can be custom-designed to fit the client\u2019s unique needs or specifications.<\/span><\/p>\n

This attention to both the aesthetics of design and the nitty-gritty of construction have quickly driven David Vincent to the top of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Christian and Jay, this duality of function isn\u2019t limited to running a design-build firm together.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Jay\u2019s not wielding a sledgehammer or a drill, you can catch him on the set of a network show, where he moonlights as a successful actor. But far from limiting the partnership, working around Jay\u2019s acting schedule keeps things fresh.<\/span><\/p>\n

It \u201cmakes it fun for him, keeps\u00a0it interesting for me,\u201d says Christian.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Tale of Two Lighting Fixtures<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

For one of their latest projects, David Vincent tackled the brand new LA office for high-end real estate firm Mercer Vine<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal of Mercer Vine is to reinvigorate the real estate game. They were looking to design an entertaining\u00a0yet classy space,\u201d says Christian.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brought on by designer Chad Hogan of Chandler Farm, the team needed industrial pendant lights for the offices and track lighting in the main spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Choosing well-designed fixtures was crucial.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely didn\u2019t want to do a typical track lighting system\u2014especially because of the open ceiling design. The lighting is probably the first\u00a0or second\u00a0thing you see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

They chose the Alcon Lighting Spaceship High Bay Pendant<\/a> and the Philips Ledalite Jump Light<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Mercer<\/a><\/p>\n

With its perforated frame and rounded edges, the Phillips Jump Light Fixture puts a unique spin on traditional office lighting\u2014with just enough design to be dangerous.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Christian, these lights\u00a0also serve to \u201ccall out the path of travel through the space.\u201d Visitors can use these pendant fixtures to navigate \u2014as a \u201ctrail map\u201d guiding them through the open office plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Luckily, everyone was extremely happy with the end product.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Mercer<\/a>\u201cThey\u2019re sexy lights. I get so many compliments on them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

David Vincent\u2019s next project (also in collaboration with Alcon Lighting) is for new nail salon tenoverten opening at The Platform, a hot property near downtown Culver City.
