we recently installed 25 new recessed lights in our home and they all have R30 and R40 dimmable fluorescent lights made by a company named TCP. I noticed your company also sells their products so I decided to post this issue here.

Upon installing these recessed lights, 9 of them instantly went bad, after having been turned on 30 seconds after installation.

What could have caused this? TCP said they would replace them but if this happened again, it most certainly meant there was something wrong with our installation.

please help.
Thanks,
Mendy

Hi Mendy,

Thanks for posting your issue.

Although products by different manufacturers may vary in compatibility, here are a few general pointers when dealing with dimmable CFL(s) (Compact Fluorescent Lamps).

1. There can be no incandescent light bulbs on the same switch as the dimmable CFL(s).

2. Dimmable CFL(s) are not generally designed to operate with sensor or timer switches.

3. The dimmer switch manufacturers Lutron and Leviton both manufacture specific dimmers for dimming CFL(s).

4. Upon initial installation, the CFL(s) should be left on at full brightness for one hour prior to being dimmed for the first time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Chris.

I’m assuming they burnt because we tried to dimming them right away. We just installed the new set and I’m leaving them on for an hour or so before anyone tries to dim them.
